Read Psalm 79
Think About It:
- Can you imagine what it was like to see the temple defiled? Think of all our nation’s church buildings lying in ruins being taken over by Satan worshippers—the blood and dead bodies of believers in the streets. Then, hearing your beliefs mocked, would you plead with God for vindication? On whose behalf, yours or His?
- The people vowed if God would just do what they wanted (verses 5-12), then they would give Him thanks and tell of His praise. How like that are you?
Family Time:
- In verses 1-8, we can guess that Israel was attacked by enemies and destroyed. In verse 9 there was a cry for help. What reason does the psalmist ask for help?
- In the Old Testament, when a group of people lost in a war, people thought their god lost too. The psalmist is concerned about God’s reputation (what people think of Him). Are you concerned about God’s reputation? Why should you be?
- What kind of reputation do you give God by your actions and/or words?
