Read Psalm 57-58
Think About It:
- Psalm 57 begins with asking God to be merciful, because he trusts in God and he takes refuge in the shadow of God’s wings. David states his absolute trust and faith that God can and will save him. In contrast he describes the effect the tactics and warfare of his enemies has upon his soul. What is the state of his soul?
- Though David is fleeing from Saul for his life, he continues to lavishly praise God. How is it possible to praise God and rejoice in Him when you are going through extreme difficulties?
- In saying, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely He is God who judges the earth,” David desired the world to see that there was a moral order under God where righteousness is rewarded and wickedness is judged. Spurgeon said “All men shall be forced by the sight of the final judgment to see that there is a God, and that He is the righteous ruler of the universe. Two things will come out clearly after all – there is a God and there is a reward for the righteous.” Do you believe that the world wants to see righteousness rewarded and wickedness judged? Why or why not?
Family Time:
- Re-read Psalm 57:7-11. Listen and worship along with “Forever” on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lPdtqgouCc
- Was God only faithful to David?
- Is God worthy of ALL your praise?
- Consider Psalm 58. It may seem at times as though the wicked don’t have any consequences, but there is a day coming when mankind will receive rewards and judgments. Speak verse 11 out loud.
