Read Psalm 23-24
Think About It:
Psalm 23
- It is important to note that in verse 1, God is not ‘a’ shepherd but ‘my’ shepherd. Why is that important to you? How should your life as a sheep be different from a wolf or goat?
- “He leadeth me…” are you sitting or being led?
- As a Christian, you are a priest. “A priest without oil misses the chief qualification for his office, and the Christian priest lacks his chief fitness for service when he is devoid of new grace from on high” (Treasury of David, Charles H. Spurgeon, p. 356). Are you in the habit of seeking His grace everyday knowing you have a duty?
Psalm 24
- What do you want to do more than anything else? Relax? Golf? Pray? Watch a T.V. series? Vacation? Make more money? This will show you where your heart is.
Family Time:
- Psalm 23 is a very well-known Psalm. As you read it, you may be tempted to think ‘Oh yeah, I know this one’ and speed through it. Here are some ideas to help you better appreciate this Psalm:
*IMAGINE: Close your eyes. Have someone else read Psalm 23 out loud. Imagine what these verses would look like – the still waters, having your head anointed with oil (by the Lord!), etc.
*DISCUSSION: Notice that Psalm 23 is written about what the Lord does for YOU because he loves YOU. As you read it, notice all the things the Lord does because YOU are His. Discuss how this looks in your life today.
*ART: Draw, color or paint your favorite part of this verse.
*MUSIC: Ask for help looking up Psalm 23 put to music on YouTube. Here are some suggestions: Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone) https://youtu.be/80IMGnPUAdw , Kids Worship: Psalm 23 https://youtu.be/4cp478Gxs-O , Songtime Kids Psalm 23 https://youtu.be/TeAQOqs6nCE

- Psalm 24 is filled with more praise. Verses 7-9 talks about the gates lifting up their heads. Could that really happen? Sometimes psalmists give human characteristics (or abilities) to things that can’t really move to make a point. What do you think this means?
