Read 2 Chronicles 17
Think About It:
- Jehoshaphat comes on the scene and first strengthens Judah from potential attacks from Israel and other armies. Understanding your weakness is important. Jehoshaphat could see the damage previous kings had done to the LORD’s people. How would he correct the damage? He removed all the idolatry in the land – the pagan shrines and the Asherah poles. But that was not enough. Jehoshaphat sent his officials, Levites, and priests to teach the people – taking copies of the Book of the Law of the LORD. They traveled through all the towns of Judah teaching the people. That is how you do it, teach the people the Word of the LORD. As a result, the Fear of the LORD fell over the surrounding kingdoms so that none of them wanted to declare war on Jehoshaphat. Most of all, the LORD was with this king.
We must know the Word of God and live it. It must be part of our daily life. We must seek to understand and follow it, and then the LORD will give you the strength to withstand any attack.
- We must root out any idolatry in our lives. It is never too late to start back on the right path. Ask the LORD to help you. He will.
Family Time:
- Jehoshaphat had a different attitude about God than his father had. Name things Jehoshaphat did that showed how he felt about God. (verses 3-9)
- Jehoshaphat made sure the people understood God’s laws and His word. Why do you think learning these things were important for Jehoshaphat’s people? Why would it be important for you today?
