Read 2 Kings 25
Think About It:
- Judah, like Israel, was unfaithful to God. After Jerusalem was besieged for 18 months, there was no food and then the army and the King fled. How complete was the destruction of Jerusalem? What, if anything, remained in Jerusalem?
- What happened to the people that weren’t carried away in verses 18-21?
- What did Gedaliah tell the people who remained in Judah? What was the result in verse 25? Where did they go?
- Jehoiachin is freed from prison. What does the king of Babylon do for him? Hope is still alive!
Family Time:
- How long was the siege described in this chapter?
The book of 2 Kings begins with Elijah being carried up to Heaven. This is the destination of those who follow God. 2 Kings ends much differently than it begins. It ends with the fall of Judah, where its people are being carried off to captivity at the hands of its enemies. This is an example of what happens when you turn from God and embrace sin.
- To stay close to God what must we do?
- Can we come back to God after we have fallen into sin? How?
