Read 2 Kings 17
Think About It:
- Hoshea did evil in the sight of the Lord, but not as the kings before him. Did that make him better?
- Two Assyrian invasions ended with the captivity of Israel. In verses 7-17, the sins/reasons are named, what are they? Sin brings discipline and the consequences can be irreversible.
- God’s pleading through the prophets and seers didn’t turn them back to God. They only hardened themselves more. Has the Holy Spirit shown you things that you need to turn away from? What was your response?
- The Samaritans “feared” God, but served their idols and taught this to their children. They treated God as a “lucky charm”. How does that reflect people in today’s society? Is God first in your life or just a back-up plan?
Family Time:
- Have you ever been punished for doing something wrong? God was patient and warned the people many times to follow and obey Him, but the people refused. God had to discipline them.
- What was the consequence of their disobedience?
- Why did God scatter His people?
