Read 2 Kings 1
Think About It:
- After Ahaziah takes a fall and wonders if he will heal, who did he ask? See Matthew 12:24. (The Jews later changed the name to mean “lord of the dunghill”.)
- Why did he question the quick return of the messengers? Ahaziah identified Elijah by only his physical description. Did he know him?
- What was different about the third captain of the fifty (verse 13)? Why did Elijah go with him in verse 15?
- Knowing he had sinned by not asking God about his healing, Ahaziah died (verse 16-17). Do we fail to ask God about things in our lives?
Family Time:
- Ahab’s son, Ahaziah, became the next king of Israel after King Ahab’s death in the battle. King Ahaziah did evil in the sight of the Lord by worshipping Baal, not the true God. When King Ahaziah fell and was injured, he wondered if he would recover so he sent messengers to Baal-Zebub to find out. Who did the messengers meet on their way? What did this man tell the messengers about King Ahaziah’s injury?
- King Ahaziah realized the prophet was Elijah the Tishbite, so he sent a captain and his 50 men to the hill where Elijah was. Describe what happened next. Describe what happened to the next captain and his 50 men. (verses 9-12)
- King Ahaziah sent another captain and his 50 men to Elijah. Tell what happened this time. (verses 13-16) What eventually happened to King Ahaziah?
