Think About It:
- Why do you think God included the story of Abimelech and his actions in the Bible?
- Are there any lessons we can learn from this account?
Family Time:
- “Our goals direct our actions.” Abimelech, one of Gideon’s 70 sons wanted the power to rule over the Israelites after his father died. However, he did evil and wicked things to get that power. What did he do?
- Check your life goals…how can you know if they are good AND in line with God’s direction for your life?
- God was not pleased with Abimelech and the people of Sechem because of what they did to Gideon’s sons, so God sent an evil spirit between them to repay them for their wickedness. During one of the resulting battles, Abimelech died. Tell how he died. His death was a humiliating death. Why? What does this tell you about God?
