Read Deuteronomy 17
Think About It:
- What kind of sacrifice would the Lord accept? How does this compare to your service to Him?
- Capital punishment was used as a deterrent for evil. Did it work then or today? Death was the punishment for the worship of idols. What are your “idols”? Do they kill your body or your spirit?
- One of the guidelines for the king, included writing his own copy of the instructions Moses had given, keeping them with him and reading them daily. What was the purpose of this? Would we benefit from doing the same?
Family Time:
- What does Moses say must happen to anyone who turns away from God and worships other gods?
- What are some things that the chosen king must do, or not do, in order to assure that he and his descendants will reign a long time over the kingdom of Israel?
