Read Deuteronomy 8
Think About It:
And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. So, He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
- What were the three essentials the Lord required of the children of Israel before they were to possess the land? (verses 1-6)
- When we are content, what are we to do?
- What did the Lord say would happen to the children of Israel if they were not obedient to the voice of the Lord?

Memory Verses: These verses are the ones most focused on in the questions. Choose one to memorize.
Older & Younger Children: Deuteronomy 8:6-10
- Discuss and list the “good” things God will bring His people to.
- How do these things that are promised compare to what Israel had in the 40 years spent in the desert?
- Even though they suffered in the desert (humbled, hungry), God still provided for them. In verses 2-5, name some of the ways God provided for the people of Israel even as he kept them in the desert for 40 years.
*Just think about it. 40 years is a long “time-out” for disobedience!
