Read Numbers 6
Think About It:
- Have you ever made a special vow to God or wanted to make a special promise to Him? We don’t do this to earn our salvation (that is legalism), but to set ourselves apart from the world, to show reverence to God and His calling on our life and to be holy as He is holy.
- Revelation 1:6 says “[Jesus] constantly loves us and has loosed us from our sins by His own blood, and He has made us to rule as a kingly priesthood to serve His God and Father…” The priestly blessing in Numbers 6:24-26 is ours to pray over loved ones. It is a good verse to put to memory: “The LORD bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you, and guard you]; The LORD make His face shine upon you [with favor], and be gracious to you [surrounding you with lovingkindness]; The LORD lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval], and give you peace [a tranquil heart and life].” (Amplified version used to give more meaning of prayer. Choose your favorite translation to memorize.)
- The word “peace” in vs. 26 comes from the original word “Shalom”, which means well-being, health, safety, prosperity, wholeness and completeness. So, the blessing is asking God to provide our physical needs as well as our emotional needs.

Older Children: Numbers 6: 26-27
Younger Children: Numbers 6: 24-26
- A vow is a promise, a solemn promise to God that needs to be entered into very seriously. Why did the people take the vow of a Nazarite? What would “separating yourself to God” be like?
- Discuss the Priestly Blessing in verses 22-27. Each phrase describes something God was being asked to do for the person being blessed. Can you find the 5 things that were being asked of God in the blessing?
