Read Genesis 48
Think About It:
- Out of respect for Jacob, Joseph asks for a blessing for his sons and by faith, in humility, accepts Jacob’s direction. What are some ways we can do the same with our parents/children/grandchildren?
- As we age, our words of blessing to children becomes more important. What can you say to a young person you know to bless them?
- Jacob recognizes God’s provision of the past and anticipates His continued faithfulness in future generations – take some time to do the same as you meditate on this chapter. God exceeded Jacob’s expectations in verse 11. How has God exceeded your expectations?
Family Time:
- Why was Joseph displeased about his father’s hand on Ephraim’s head?
- What is a remnant?
- Why did God preserve a remnant of Israel?
- Throughout the Old Testament we see God preserving His remnant, and eventually it was through that small group of people that the Messiah (Jesus) would come.
Try making a paper chain to remind you of how God links the events in your life together to carry out His plan. Take a strip of paper and write a verse on it, family member’s names, or an event from your past, etc. and decorate it. Staple or tape it into a circular chain link. Then make another link (adding another verse, family member’s name, event from your past, etc.), from another strip, and attach it to the first link. Continue until all the links are connected to make a chain.
