Read Genesis 27
Think About It:
- Rebekah played a big part in tricking Isaac into blessing Jacob. Why was she a part of this? What convinced Isaac that Jacob was Esau?
- What was the difference between the blessings Isaac gave to Jacob and Esau? (Esau had already sold his birthright to Jacob for food.)
Family Time:
Who did wrong in this story?
REBEKAH: A mother is to train up her children in righteousness. Rebekah led her son in deceit. Rebekah tricked Isaac, her husband, with goat’s meat. She encouraged Jacob to lie.
JACOB: Jacob lied and lied and lied. Isaac gave Jacob several opportunities to tell the truth. Jacob would not make the right choice.
PARENTS: Have you ever led your children down the wrong path? Are you doing that now? Confess and ask their forgiveness. Choose to be a Godly example today!
KIDS: Has God ever provided a way out of a lie and you did not take it? Why not? Did it feel better to keep lying? Did it get easier?
(Genesis 27:30-46) Who was hurt by these lies?
ISAAC: Isaac’s heart must have been broken. Presenting your firstborn with their birthright was a great honor. Isaac’s wife had tricked him horribly. His own son deceived him.
ESAU: His honor was ripped away. A birthright was a very big deal. His very own twin brother had deceived him. His mother had hurt him as well.
JACOB: His twin brother hated him. He gave up that relationship and the one with his father for riches.
REBEKAH: The Bible does not say but surely Isaac and Esau were angry with her. She had to send Jacob away to protect him. She ‘lost’ both her sons.
His love for them after their disobedience?
