Read Genesis 19
Think About It:
- After reading the entire chapter, what kind of man do you think Lot was?
- Why did the future sons-in-laws not take Lot seriously in verse 14?
Family Time:
- (Genesis 19:1-11) The two men that had visited Abraham were two angels. Lot was Abraham’s cousin. Sodom was a very evil city. Lot wanted the angels to stay with him to protect them. The men in the city wanted to hurt these men (angels). Lot refused to let the men out. The evil men got mad. They threatened to do worse to Lot than what they were going to do to the visitors. The angels struck the men of the city blind. They still tried to get in, even after being made blind, until they became weary. Their sin was so great they could not stop what they were doing!
Have you ever felt like you couldn’t stop doing something bad? Stealing? Lying? Swearing? Overeating? Being unkind? Gossiping? We have the power with Jesus to overcome all things. Pray together as a family about your specific issues. Ask for prayer at church for sin in your life by filling out a prayer card or going to the altar. Don’t be afraid, you don’t have to give details. Remember this story. Get rid of your sins before they take over your life like sin took over these cities.
- (Genesis 19:30-38) Lot’s daughters did not trust God to provide husbands for them. They made bad choices. As a result, their children became nations that were enemies of Israel. We never know where our sin, disobedience and bad choices will lead. God does show mercy. God also shows judgement where it is due. Have you made bad choices because of your unbelief? What happened?
